Old Mill Village on the River
Spray Foam Insulation in Homer covers older houses in the village and the farm buildings around it. Milton Barney settled the area in 1832, first calling it Barneyville. The post office was registered in 1834 and renamed Homer after a village in Cortland County, New York, and Homer was incorporated as a village in 1871. It sits on the south bank of the Kalamazoo River.
Village housing
The 2020 census counted 1,575 residents and 695 housing units, 8.5% of them vacant. Many homes are older frame houses, and some have been in the same family for decades.
The mills
The "new" Homer mills burned to the ground on May 16, 2010, a reminder of the village's mill history. Older homes near the river face damp air, and their rim joists and crawl spaces benefit most from closed-cell foam.
What we usually do
We seal and insulate the attic, foam the rim joist and crawl space walls, and dense-pack empty walls where owners want them filled. Barns and shops outside the village get closed-cell foam on the steel.
Planning a project
We price each area separately, so you can do the most important work now and leave the rest for later.
Small houses, big drafts
In a small house, air leaks have an outsized effect. Sealing the attic hatch, the plumbing stack and the top plates of interior walls, then foaming the rim, can change how a house feels in a single day of work. We start there before suggesting anything larger.

Homer Questions
Do older Homer homes need crawl space work?
Many do, especially near the river. Closed-cell foam on the walls and rim keeps damp air off cold surfaces.
What is the best first step?
Air sealing and insulating the attic, then the rim joist.
Do you come out to Homer for barns?
Yes. Closed-cell foam on steel stops condensation.
Can I do part of the work now and the rest later?
Yes. Each area is priced separately on the estimate.
