A Village Settled in 1831
Spray Foam Insulation in Athens covers village homes and the farmhouses and barns in the township around them. Athens was settled in 1831 by people largely from Athens, New York, which gave the village its name. It lies in the southern part of Athens Township, about 15 miles south of Battle Creek, with Nottawa Creek flowing through it.
Small and stable
The village had 936 residents at the 2020 census, down 8.6% from 1,024 in 2010. In 2010 it counted 424 housing units and 387 households. Most homes are older, and many owners have been in them a long time.
Older village houses
The common problems are the same as in other early Calhoun County towns: shallow attics with little insulation, bare rim joists on stone or block foundations, and walls that were never filled. We seal and insulate the attic first, then foam the rim and dense-pack the walls if the owner wants them done.
Farm buildings
Around the village, barns, machine sheds and shops are common. Closed-cell foam on steel stops condensation and lets a shop be heated through winter.
Getting the most for the money
In a small house, a few targeted fixes often make the biggest difference: sealing the attic hatch, foaming the rim and adding attic depth. We price each separately so you can choose.
Pipes and crawl spaces
Some older Athens homes have additions over crawl spaces, where pipes freeze in a cold snap. Sealing and insulating the crawl space walls and rim keeps that space closer to house temperature and protects the plumbing. We check for water first and recommend fixing drainage before any foam goes in.
